Michael at the Well Done Awards

After days of hunting for pictures of Michael at the awards show, I finally got hold of some after a reader sent me a link to a few photos from the event.

Thanks Ali!

I like Mikey's new geeky look. I'm not so crazy about the hair, but I hardly notice it because I look at the pictures and just zero in on his face.

I can't wait to hear and see these gorgeous boys sing together. What a moment that would be.

Jason Has Found A Home!

Yep! That's what he said! =p

I interrupt our regular programming (lol) to tell you that Jason Castro, Michael's big brother and American Idol Season 7 Third Runner Up, is now signed with Atlantic Records. Yes. THE Atlantic Records. Home of the Mraz, Collins, Thomas etc...

Apparently, Jason mentioned it during an interview on the night of his appearance on American Idol Extra. For some reason AI conveniently failed to give him the opportunity to say it on air and make it known to the world that he has been signed to a major record deal. Probably because Atlantic is a competitor of 19E. But whatever...

Anyway, someone found this link, so her ya go, watch and listen as Jason makes it official.

And listen to him talk about Michael! He said Michael has the "music bug". LOL Cute.

Jason Castro at Texas A&M

From theeagle.com

Texas A&M's favorite American Idol semifinalist is coming back to play for his fellow Aggies.

Jason Castro, an Aggie who competed in last year's edition of the popular TV singing contest, will play a concert at 8 p.m. March 28 in Rudder Auditorium on the Texas A&M campus. The concert is part of the Big Event, an annual day in which A&M students do community service projects.

Tickets for the concert, which are $15 for students and $20 for others, went on sale Tuesday.

Michael will be Jason's opening act. So to all of you who want to watch the Castro boys perform, this is your chance.

And be sure to take lots of pictures and videos to share with the lame ones like me who can't be there. ; )

Michael Castro's AI Journey Ends...For Now

-

Most of you probably know by now that Michael got cut at the end of the Top 72.

I wanted to refrain from posting the schedule of his shows as not to spoil the Hollywood outcome for the others who didn't know. But since his area tour had already begun, I had decided to just post it. At least those who figured out the implication of the sched didn't have to keep on hoping that Michael made it to the voting rounds.

I don't really mind that he got cut coz it's really not the end of the road for him. And with all the plants (professionals and veterans alike) in the contestant pool this year, a newbie like him would have had to face an uphill climb. What irks me the most is that they cut him, but didn't even show him singing.

I wanted to hear him sing. But lo and behold, AI opted to show us the tired and old formula of senseless bickering, sob stories, and all that drama.

I wanted to know WHY he was cut. But no, that didn't happen. They should have shown at least one of his 3 performances, for after all didn't the day of his audition register record high ratings? Isn't he the most popular of the contestants this year? Doesn't he have the biggest following? Love him or hate him, at least people are talking about him. If he got cut because he sucked during the Top 72, well then, they should have at least shown the clip. It would help me understand why he was cut, because frankly, a lot, and I do mean a LOT, of those who were promoted most certainly don't deserve to be in the Top 50.

AI or whoever did the editing is not in tune with the rest of the world. No one enjoyed those annoying cat fights, the irritating mumbling of songs, the epic walking off the stage stunts. I know AI is all about the drama, sure they need to spice things up. But seriously, if what we saw during the Hollywood round is an indication of what the rest of the season holds for us, then there is only one thing I look forward to, seeing the four judges attempt to show some kind of chemistry and rapport, but instead end up looking like panelists on the Jerry Springer show.

And somewhere out there, Nigel Lythgoe is rubbing his two hands together and giving an evil laugh.

Jason Castro Sings Hallelujah

.Jason

This just in:

Amar A Morir Premiere Night

Aaaahhh goose bumps. Amazing.

Ya, ya, I know. We're supposed to be writing about Michael. But come on, it's his brother. It's Hallelujah. It's Jason. ;-)

P.S.

We've been trying to find pics of Michael from the event. So far we haven't found any. But some will eventually turn up. No worries.

Jason Castro To Perform At The Santa Barbara International Film Festiv

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="401" caption=" "]Jason At Movie Premiere[/caption]

A rumor suggests that Jason's family will be flying to California to watch his performance. And since Michael's MySpace status (from 16 hours ago) says he is "packing and then off to the airport", I suspect that he will be attending the Santa Barbara International Festival to support his brother.

So if you are anywhere near Santa Barbara, or if you live faaarrrr away, but has the means and the time, why not attend the Festival? Not only will you be able to watch Jason perform his FULL version of the lovely Hallelujah, you might just have the chance to see "the" Michael Castro up close and personal.

And wait, there's more!

The luminous Kate Winslet will be at the festival on the same day to receive the Montecito Award. The awarding ceremony will be in a different theater (Arlington), but hey, if you try hard enough, star sighting is not improbable.

The event which runs January 22 to February 1, 2009, will be honoring the great Clint Eastwood on the 29th. Kristin Scott Thomas, Penelope Cruz and comeback king Mickey Rourke, will also be receiving special awards.

Movie festivals like this are always fun and interesting. There are different programs and activities all day long and if you buy a special cinema pass, you can watch all the movies you like. Sometimes the package even includes access to the gala on the first day and the awards ceremony on the final night of the festival.

For more information on the festival schedule and the ticket/passes packages, here's the link to their website : SBIFF

Michael Castro Music Hits The 100K Mark

.

Well, well, well, take a look at that.

.

.
He has passed the 100K mark in MySpace plays. And 130K+ in views. Very good ratio! Not bad for someone who has ZERO experience.

Sure he's got the famous Castro family name, not to mention that he's a carrier of the Castro genes. BUT still, you've got to give this boy some credit. He made it past the judges on his own merits. He sings well, looks GREAT and is definitely not forgettable.

Plus, the tracks he's got on MySpace (This Boy, Feelin' Good) sound really good. And of course, it doesn't hurt that there are hot pics of him on his page.

Tsk, tsk, our boy is growing up so fast. I'm so proud. :D

Michael Castro Makes A Splash

.

There's a lot of buzz about our boy. Here's another article; it's from the NY Daily:
He's no bikini-girl, but 'American Idol' star Jason Castro's brother Michael has family ties

Well, he's no bikini-girl Katrina Darrell, but Michael Castro still made a splash Wednesday night on "American Idol" for his family ties: the hot pink-haired singer is the brother of last season's sweet-voiced crooner Jason Castro.

.

It's a good read. Here's the link.

"Pink-Haired" Michael Advances

.
An article from USMagazine.

.

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="452" caption="Usmagazine Screencap"]Usmagazine Screencap[/caption]

.
On Wednesday's American Idol, wannabe singers in Kansas City turned out -- including Michael Castro, the pink-haired brother of last year's finalist Jason Castro.

Michael, 20, impressed the judges with his performance of Gavin DeGraw's "In Love With A Girl."

MTV Article About Michael

.

Whooaa. A whole article about our boy.

Way to go MCas!!!

Now, that's what I call star power.

I do have mixed feeling about the article, though.

This is the part that I like:
The judges seemed skeptical at first, but Michael's mix of shyness and confidence impressed them. Simon Cowell called the audition "goodish," and new judge Kara DioGuardi said he was "kind of ballsy," suggesting that the sly look in Michael's eye meant he had a secret.

It is generally a positive write up about Michael, with the writer even referring to Michael as "a rare legacy act" when talking about the failed attempts of sibling of former Idol contestants to go far on the show.

And then there's the part which I really found distasteful. The writer made some snide (and ignorant) comments about Jason.

MTV, the same company who hired JASON for some reality show years ago, makes an inappropriate and uncalled for attempt at bashing. But even then they couldn't come up with anything original. Geesh...lyric flubbing? That's your best shot? How lame.

Excuse my ranting here. I just can't stand people who attack unsuspecting people without reason nor basis. The writer didn't have to take a swipe at Jason, but for some twisted reason, he felt it necessary to call him names.

LINK

And then here is Jason Castro's video for the I AM SECOND Campaign.

.

Jason and Michael Castro in the LA Times

It's more about Jason, but Michael's in it too!
"One star shines bright in Kansas City "

by Richard Rushfield:

The show's most intriguing moment came, however, in a guest cameo -- the return of Season Seven giant Jason Castro to the "Idol" auditions in support of his charismatic younger brother, Michael.

Seeing Jason, an actual, certified Idol walk among the cringing masses in the waiting lounge was such a contrast, it was like seeing a god come down from Mt. Olympus and walk among mere mortals.  The fascinating part is that just one year ago, Jason sat among them, without any special aura or grandeur to his presence. So innocuous was Jason that he was not even shown until the end of Hollywood Week.

Such is the power of "American Idol" that a year later, having worked his way through the "Idol" journey, having stood night after night before millions, he appears with a larger-than-life quality.

.

You can read the rest of the article HERE. And while you're there, how about leaving some good words for our boy. Mmmkay?

Quotes From Michael's Audition

.

* Exchange between new judge Kara and our boy:

Kara:  “You have this, ‘I have a secret’ vibe”

Michael: “Maybe I don’t even know it.”

(he is a stud. that is all.)

.

*Michael on big bro Jason

Michael: “He’s like, more girly, and I’m more, like, not girly,”

(this is the part where my jaw dropped and then after I had finally picked it up from the floor, all I called say was a big WTH!!! ) =p

.

*And my favorite quote of the night:

Jason: “By girly you mean I have emotions and express them well?  Some people call that an artist.”

(and then a collective shriek was heard across Castro land.)

.

And by the way, contrary to American Idol's constant claim, Jason Castro is in fact a fun and interesting interviewee. This jab at Jason's interview skills is getting tired. The only clip they ever have of him bungling up an interview  is that pre-performance clip from the Top 20 round. Yes, from week 2. It's that old.

Jason consistently gave honest, polite, down to earth and sincere interviews. His exit interview on Idol Extra was entertaining and truthful and all his radio interviews after AI were fun and revealing.

But I digress.  On the Michael : It will truly be interesting to watch how far Michael will go on his AI journey. I also wonder whether the show is going to treat him more humanely and spare him the savage beating his beautiful soul of a brother got.

To Michael's credit, our guy is a Cage fighter. I'm not saying he's going to get all violent, but I really don't think he's going to take crap from anyone. Not even Simon.

.

Michael Castro Audition Video

I can't get it to load here. Grrrr.

But here's a link to it.

Michael Castro - Audition, Kansas City

_

Side note:

I noticed that Ryan Seacrest referred to Jason as last year's "fourth runner-up".  WTH?

It was either Ryan's mistake or the writer's. They demoted the guy one rank down.

Just to be clear to everyone,  Jason Castro was the 4th placer last season. He finished in the Top 4 and hence should be called  the "third runner-up".
